5 Influential Women to Empower You

Learning about women who have made valuable contributions empowers me. I don’t have to learn in great detail and it doesn’t even matter if I remember which woman did what.

What builds my confidence is learning about what women have done and continue to do. Here are 5 women you may not know about.

Marie Curie, First woman to win a Nobel Prize.

1. Ada Lovelace, Mathematician

Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician and writer who is considered the world's first computer programmer. She worked with Charles Babbage on his "analytical engine," a mechanical computer that was never built, and wrote the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine.

2. Wangari Maathai, Environmental and Political Activist

Wangari Maathai was a Kenyan environmental and political activist who founded the Green Belt Movement. She was the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize and dedicated her life to fighting for the rights of women, the environment, and democracy.

3. Marie Curie Physicist and Chemist

Marie Curie was a Polish-born physicist and chemist who conducted pioneering research on radioactivity. She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, and the first person to win two Nobel Prizes in different fields (physics and chemistry). Her work on radioactivity paved the way for many modern technologies, including nuclear medicine and radiation therapy.

4. Frida Kahlo - Artist

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter who is best known for her self-portraits. She was also an active communist and feminist who used her art to explore themes of identity, gender, and politics. Her paintings are celebrated for their vibrant colors, surreal imagery, and emotional depth, and have inspired generations of artists around the world.

5. Ada Lovelace - Mathematician

Ada Lovelace was an English mathematician who is credited with writing the world's first computer program. She worked closely with Charles Babbage on his analytical engine, a theoretical mechanical general-purpose computer, and wrote a series of notes that described how the machine could be programmed to solve complex mathematical problems. Her work laid the foundation for modern computer programming and has inspired generations of women in technology.

These are just a few of the many inspirational women who have made significant contributions to society. Their stories remind us that women have the power to change the world and inspire us to continue working towards a more equitable and just society.
